According to GOAL, Rangers are preparing to let Alfredo Morelos leave in the summer, a move that should greatly interest Newcastle.

It has been reported on occasion that Steve Bruce is an admirer of the striker, and that interest reared its head in January only for the Gers’ to rule out a potential move.

However, it is now being suggested that the Glasgow outfit will look to gain a £13m fee, with a host of clubs as well as Newcastle interested in his signature.

Leicester, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are all reportedly willing to offer the Columbian an opportunity to play in the Premier League, but he could fancy a move to the continent with Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan also courting his signature.

The fact his asking price has supposedly been reduced offers an added incentive for us to make a move soon, as we could certainly benefit from the 29 goals he has scored this term.

Should we sign Alfredo Morelos?

Joelinton, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle have all failed to deliver with just one league goal between them, which goes to show that the likes of Steve Bruce and Lee Charnley failed to replace Salomon Rondon after his exit last summer.

Morelos is in many ways a similar forward to Rondon. He battles for every ball with an average of 15.2 duels per league game this term, of which he has won 37% – per WyScout.

The Venezuelan, by comparison, won 4.6 aerial duels per game last season, and acted as the focal point we needed under Rafa Benitez.

Joelinton attempts to do the same but lacks the pace and attacking instinct to get on the end of chances, as his three goals would suggest, and that makes Morelos a suitable replacement.

There is a concern over the 23-year-old’s discipline, having been sent off seven times for Rangers in almost three years, though that does show his fighting spirit which was similar to the way in which Rondon conducted himself.

As a result, Morelos would be a bargain at £13m and a player who would not only deliver for us, but perhaps secure a significant transfer fee in a few years time.
