Salary Demands Rule Newcastle Out Of Swoop For 5ft 7 Left Back Target

|

The club will not make a move for Everton defender Leighton Baines, according to the Chronicle.

The 33-year-old will likely only be a backup for Lucas Digne next season if the Barcelona fullback’s move is finalised, and he may look to leave Goodison Park.

However, the Chronicle‘s chief sports writer Lee Ryder has dismissed the links to Baines stating the ex England international’s wages would be too much for the club.

The Mirror believe that Burnley would be our main rivals for the left-back’s signature. Sean Dyche’s side are hardly going to offer a high salary either so a move to the United States would be the most likely outcome.

Yet, at the moment, we don’t know if Baines is willing to give up playing at the highest level. He may be in his 30s, but despite missing 16 Premier League games with a calf injury last season, he still managed 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
