Many Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media, after Allan Saint-Maximin destroyed Oxford with a stunning show of skill in the 120th-minute of our FA Cup Fourth Round Replay win on Tuesday night.
Saint-Maximin opened the affair at the Kassam Stadium on the bench as head coach Steve Bruce favoured a 5-3-2 line-up with Miguel Almiron partnering Joelinton in attack, and Nabil Bentaleb joined Sean and Matty Longstaff in the middle.
It was not long before Bruce was obliged to introduce Saint-Maximin to the action, though, as the boss was forced to bring Joelinton off after sustaining a possible fractured rib just seven minutes after finding the net.
Joelinton’s third goal in all competitions since his £40million summer switch was the last Toon strike in regular time, but Saint-Maximin did come close to assisting Sean Longstaff minutes before the full-time whistle only to see the 22-year-old’s hit miss the target.
Though extra-time was were Saint-Maximin flourished, as the £20m star winger smashed home what proved to be the winning hit with four minutes left on the clock to notch his second goal in Black and White.
Saint-Maximin dipped inside onto his favoured right foot and unleashed a rocket into the top corner to send the travelling St. James’ Park faithful into wild scenes of jubilation, but the 22-year-old was not done yet.
As the clock ticked down into the final seconds, Saint-Maxim took the ball into the corner flag but had no intentions of just shielding possession until the final whistle, as he decided to destroy Oxford with a stunning show of skill.
With two men by his side, Saint-Maximin hopped the ball into the air, flicked it over defender Josh Ruffels, shielded midfielder Liam Kelly and passed possession on as George Thorne looked to rush in.
A clip of Saint-Maximin’s skills has been doing the rounds on social media since the game and has drawn in loads of reactions.
