There are several shining lights in our young Magpies squad this season, but one name comes to mind in particular.

Tom Allan has been key to the successes of Neil Redfearn’s side during the current campaign, as we sit 6th in the Premier League 2 standings.

Despite predominantly playing for the U23s this season, the 20-year-old has also featured once for the senior side, during our 4-1 victory against Rochdale at St James’ Park in January.

He is a man who has scored seven goals and provided one assist in 13 appearances for the youngsters and has gone from strength to strength having signed his first professional contract two years ago.

Allan was even applauded by Leeds United man Leif Davis, who is a north east man and played for Gateshead before moving to Elland Road.

Allan has shone over the years and it is clear to understand why he has a great opportunity to excel and maximise his full potential on Tyneside.

Can Thomas Allan break into the first team?

Yes

No

No

Typically a right-winger, he has the versatility to play as a centre forward and as the second striker if necessary. Despite not having started all of the games he has featured in, his presence and contribution has had a huge say during the current campaign.

With the club on the dawn of a drastic transformation, there could be a chance that he could break into the first-team. Better still, cement a place in the side.

Time will tell whether he can make a successful step up. But if he keeps up his good form, he has every chance.
