As a name to look out for, Ryan Donaldson is one of a few lads who are on the periphery of the first team and looking to break in. The likes of Donaldson, Godsmark, Ranger and fringe sub Lua Lua have all impressed in patches for the reserves this season and following an impressive win at the league leading mackems in midweek, Donaldson said:

‘That’s the aim, and hopefully it will happen one day. I’ve been on the bench a few times this season, and, to be honest, it’s a buzz just warming up. We have quite a few Geordies in the reserves and Academy teams, and it would be great to see a few of them come through. You just have to keep working away and get your chance.

It was great feeling to beat Sunderland 2-1 the other night. They’re a good team and are top of the league, so we have to be happy – 2009 has been great so far. We’re through to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, too, and there’s no reason why we can’t go further.’
