Rafael Benitez’s contract at Newcastle United expires at the end of the season, and that’s very worrying for fans. The prospect of us having to replace him, likely with a less talented manager, would slow down all the progress we’ve made over the last few years, and that’s the last thing we need.
Fortunately, though, the latest update on Benitez’s future has made us more positive than ever.
Indeed, as per the Chronicle, Benitez has made it clear that he wants to stay at Newcastle this summer, with the manager apparently ready to give the club time to secure the deal. He has big plans, it is said, to turn Newcastle into a Premier League force again.
Of course, under Rafa there’s been a lot of progress at St. James’ Park, and so there’s no better man to take us forward. However, that progress is also always going to generate suitors, and so it’s a fine line to tread.
Fortunately, we appear to be on the right side of that line.
This is really fantastic news. Any update that we can get on the future of Benitez is much-wanted amongst fans, and this is perhaps the best update we’ve got in a while.
There’s always been a fear that Benitez may lose patience with the club in pursuit of a new deal, and he’d undoubtedly not have any shortage of options elsewhere.
However, this seems positive, and it doesn’t look as though he’s losing patience with the club.
Until he signs the deal, though, we’ll be keeping everything crossed.
