Former Sunderland and England striker Darren Bent has suggested that Newcastle United could tempt Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha to move to St James’ Park if our proposed takeover goes ahead.

PCP Capital Partners have paid a £17m deposit and exchanged contracts with retail tycoon Mike Ashley. However, as the Daily Mail reported, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment (PIF), who would take an 80% stake in the football club, are under intense scrutiny from the Premier League about their human rights record and their involvement in pirate television.

Zaha has become a much-loved figure in South London and is into his second stint with the Eagles after leaving the club briefly to join Manchester United as a youngster in 2014, only for him to return a year later permanently.

Speaking to Football Insider, Bent feels that the Tyneside club could attract players like Zaha if PIF takes control of the club.

“I know a lot of guys think Newcastle is so far north but it’s an excellent place to live. Great place, nice restaurants, lively nightlife, it’s bubbly and it’s passionate.

“If they can go and get someone like Wilfried Zaha, that would be tempting. Money talks, we know that. He’s on what, £100,000-a-week now? If Newcastle offers him more, you’re not asking him to move to Mars!”

As much as there is an element of sarcasm in what Bent is saying. He would be a fantastic addition to our squad and would certainly help us in creating more chances and scoring more goals.

The Ivorian has certainly proved himself at Palace, having scored 56 times and provided 70 assists in 353 appearances.

His offensive play during the current campaign has been instrumental. Per Whoscored, he has managed to average 1.5 shots per game, 4.7 dribbles, one key pass, 30 passes and a success rate of 80.6%.

Zaha would be an unbelievable signing. But according to The Guardian, he is on £130,000-a-week with the Eagles which hopefully wouldn’t be a problem, but his price tag would stand at £100m to take him away from Selhurst Park.

It would be brave of us to spend that much money. Nevertheless, he would improve us immensely.
