Report: Newcastle ready to sell international player on currently on their books

|

Newcastle United are willing to sell right-back DeAndre Yedlin this summer, a report from The Daily Mail has claimed.

Yedlin joined the Magpies from Tottenham back in the summer of 2016, and has since gone onto make 116 appearances in all competitions for the north east club, scoring on three occasions, although it now seems as though he could be on the move again sooner rather than later.

According to the latest reports, Newcastle are open to the sale of the USA international this summer, and it seems they have already set their asking price.

It is thought that Newcastle will listen to offers of at £5million for the 27-year-old, who is already said to be attracting attention from clubs in Europe and the MLS.

As things stand, there are just 12 months remaining on Yedlin’s current deal at St James’ Park, meaning he could leave the club for nothing this time next summer.

With that in mind, it does seem to make sense for Newcastle to open up to offers for the defender now, since it ought to allow them to at least receive some kind of fee for the sale of Yedlin, which can be reinvested into the club.

That being said, £5million does feel like a slightly low asking price for a player with Yedlin’s experience and proven ability at top-flight level.

Indeed, Yedlin’s sale does feel like it would leave them short of a well-established right-back in the squad, and you wonder if the American’s potential departure could force the club back into the transfer market in that position.
