Newcastle United could have a real say in the future of Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson, according to reports.

Premier League rivals West Ham United have been monitoring the progress of the Frenchman closely and are interested in taking him to the London Stadium when the 2019/20 campaign eventually comes to a close.

The Hammers are not the only side to be interested. Aston Villa and Everton are also in the mix for the Ligue 1 star’s signature.

However, with the landscape about to radically change on Tyneside, the situation may become very different indeed.

According to Le 10 Sport, the Magpies are expected to significantly boost ourselves in the transfer market and therefore our chances of signing players, which could put us front of the queue to sign Sanson with a cost of around £17m-£22m.

Would you bring Morgan Sanson to St James' Park?

No

This comes after retail tycoon Mike Ashley looks to be finally selling the club after 13 years of terror. The consortium concerned making the reported £300m purchase of Newcastle United are Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers.

With football currently suspended in the UK, it is uncertain as to when the transfer window to open. If the takeover goes through, it will surely make us an attractive proposition for players moving to the Premier League.

Sanson, 25, has been impressive for his club during the current campaign, scoring five goals and five assists in 27 appearances. He comes with a solid defensive and passing ability,  averaging 2.2 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.1 key passes per game and a pass success rate of 85.9%.

This is a great position for us to be in. Let’s hope the takeover goes through as Sanson would be a strong addition to our squad, providing extra strength in depth to our midfield.
