Opinion: Latest update on future of promising striker spells bad news for Newcastle

|

If one Venezuelan striker wasn’t enough, then Rafa Benitez seemingly wants another at Newcastle. With the Magpies combining their pursuit of Salomon Rondon with his international teammate Jan Carlos Hurtado, according to recent reports suggesting we’ve scouted the Gimnasia La Plata star.

The 19-year-old has earned rave reviews for Gimnasia in Argentina, and has already earned two caps for his country. His form has led to suggestions that Newcastle were preparing a move for him this summer, but the latest update on his future may spell bad news for us.

According to Argentinian publication Diagonales, French side Marseille and several other teams from Germany are also interested in signing Hurtado in the summer transfer window, and that Benitez’s side now face stiff competition for his signature.

Despite only scoring five goals in 34 senior appearances, the Venezuelan is already being earmarked as one for the future. If we can tie up a deal for Rondon, then Hurtado could feel more compelled to join his compatriot on Tyneside.

Indeed, it would help him better settle into a completely new environment and country, and we could see the best out of the young forward before too long.

So, signing Rondon could now have an added advantage to it.
