Report: Forgotten man set for shock return to Newcastle ahead of pre-season

|

Can anyone believe Henri Saivet is still under employment at Newcastle? The midfielder joined us back in January 2016 in a £5m deal from French side Bordeaux, and has since spent the majority of his time away from St James’ Park. But according to the latest report, it appears we still envisage a future with him in our squad.

As per the Chronicle Live, the Magpies are understood to have told Saivet to report back to pre-season training on July 4. The Senegal international spent last season on loan at Turkish side Bursaspor, and made 29 appearances for the side, scoring two goals

However, following their relegation from the Super Lig, the club have decided not to take up the option to sign him on a permanent deal, and he will now return back to St James’ Park.

Saivet remains contracted with Newcastle for another two years and earns £32k a week, so whether the club decide to move him on a more long-term basis this summer remains to be seen.

The report adds that Saivet and the other returning loanees like Rolando Aarons, Achraf Lazaar and Jack Colback could be set up in the reserves, whilst the Magpies look to move them on.

But with Rafa Benitez’s future uncertain, it is understood there are certain players keeping an eye on developments over the managerial situation to see if a new boss potentially coming in might give them a second chance. In Saivet’s case however, it’s probably best for all parties that we finally get him off our books.
