Report: Duo set for St James’ Park return

|

A pair of Newcastle loanees could be set to find themselves back on Tyneside in the upcoming weeks as the club may be bringing them back from their respective loan deals.

According to reports from Football Insider, forward Elias Sorensen, 20, could be recalled from Carlisle United after struggling to feature regularly and make an impact in Cumbria.

Similarly, Rotherham manager Paul Warne has already conceded that midfielder Dan Barlaser, 22, might be taken baken back by the club due to him only making seven starts in all competition.

For Elias Sorenson, a ‘Newcastle source’ has reportedly told the outlet that an agreement is likely to be reached between the two clubs which will see Sorenson’s loan spell end at the midway point when the January transfer window re-opens in a few weeks.

The Denmark U21 forward has played just seven times this season for Carlisle and has not been able to score a goal. Six of those seven appearances were from the bench, so it’s fair to say that things have hardly gone to plan for him, making a recall seems a fairly sensible option.

For a player that managed to score 12 goals in 17 Premier League 2 games last season, as well as four in five in the EFL Trophy, this will be a disappointment for every party involved. Perhaps a move back to Newcastle and the U23s can get his confidence back and they can decide what the best option is for the player in the summer.

For Dan Barlaser, it will be a fairly similar story, though he is much older. Turning 23 next month, the midfielder will want to get as much quality first-team football as he can before his contract expires in the summer.

In all honesty, despite him looking very good for Accrington Stanley last season, it could be his last few months as a player on Tyneside due to his age, so a good loan spell for the next six months is hugely important for him if he wants his next move in the summer to be a good one.
