Whilst this season has largely remained controversy free, there’s one area of the game that we’ve noticed an issue in.

The championship may be a notch or two down in quality of football but the refereeing standard is many notches below that.

Maybe a mix of the disgruntled or those deemed not good enough for the top league, the emphasis then on making a name for themselves when they come to the likes of our St James’ Park and next up we have a serial card waver.

Scouser Peter Bankes who takes charge of the home game against Norwich has written out 39 cards already in his 9 games officiated.

34 of them yellow with the rest red so this can only mean one of two things. He’s either a ref that wants to make a name for himself or he blows for the slightest thing. Something that we’ve been victim of especially up here.

With the pressure slightly cranked up with Norwich top of the table and us being roared on by approaching 50,000, hopefully it isn’t the ref that makes the headlines.
