Whilst Newcastle continue to experience their mini-slump, it’s worth remembering a thing or two although Rafa Benitez has been quick to remind people recently.

One thing being that no matter what happens, the support has to stick together in getting behind the team as it is the most important thing around even if Mike Ashley continues to neglect it.

The team on show at present is most definitely not the one that was on Rafa’s wish list although the warnings signs that this would be the case were there in the last transfer window and the one before that.

Instead of a team assembled for the championship with one or two third or fourth choice additions, our line up this season could and should have contained many players of proven quality that will be off the radar when we really need to get them now.

We would have had a new goalkeeper in Willy Caballero or Pepe Reina. We also would have had Tammy Abraham, Andros Townsend, maybe Ruben Semedo, Sam Clucas, Andreas Samaris, Kenedy or Dennis Praet. Each and every one of them an upgrade or three on some of what we have now.

If Rafa didn’t know which personnel he would have to work with this season then it’s difficult enough for him to work with players that he knew weren’t good enough for the league we’re in but he’s plodding on.

Maybe it’s worth remembering that the next time someone is quick to slag off his choice of picking his side.
