Rafa’s Thoughts On Carabao Cup Exit At The City Ground

|

For the second consecutive season, Newcastle, last night, found themselves dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Nottingham Forest.

After a disappointing start to the season, the Carabao Cup was supposed to provide some kind of salvation.

But, it wasn’t to be.

Despite equalizing in stoppage time. The tie slipped from our grasp courtesy of two late goals.

It was a disappointing evening and with Premier League games to come against Manchester City and Arsenal, tough times lie ahead.

Last night, at the City Ground, the fans vociferous support of Rafael Benitez continued with his name being sung by the travelling support on numerous occasions.

After the game, Rafa faced the Sky Sports cameras and had this to say:

“I don’t agree that Forest were the better team and I’m not concerned by how we played.

We did not create many chances so we need to improve in attack and keep working hard.

“It’s a long season, we need it was going to be hard but we have confidence in ourselves.”

Indeed we do, but when you consider that the attack was the one area of the side that Rafa was able to add not one but two players, then perhaps out problems may lie with creating chances.

Last night, the service to Joselu and Muto wasn’t the best as Newcastle enjoyed plenty of possession against Nottingham Forest but couldn’t create those vital openings the strikers crave for.

Manchester City (a), this weekend, could prove to be an interesting experience.
