Rafa ‘wants Newcastle return’

|

Former Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is hoping for a sensational return to St. James’ Park, if reports are believed to be true.

Liam Kennedy of the Shields Gazette has got many Toon fans thinking about the possibility of Benitez coming back to the North East, whilst also issuing a pointer of how important the potential takeover of the club would be.

He tweeted to say that “He (Rafa Benitez) wants NUFC job. If he takes another (job) it will be a potential indication things are going south on takeover front.”

His tweet is in regard to the amount of Premier League jobs that have recently come available and Rafa being linked to a number of them.

There are few managers that would be more positively received on Tyneside than the Spaniard, who was incredibly popular during his stay at the club.

The point about the takeover is worth taking note of; Benitez is said to be admired by Amanda Staveley and he was a big part of her first attempt to seize the club from the hands of Mike Ashley.

Could he have some sort of verbal agreement with the club to take over in the event of the green light finally being given from the Premier League?

Of course this is all speculation but it does make sense. A big reason for why Rafa was so well liked in these parts was the clear ambition that he had for the club and unlike other managers, he was not simply happy with just being in the top 17 of the Premier League and a takeover would give him the opportunity to finish the job that he will feel he started.

What is not speculation is that Rafa will never ever work for Mike Ashley again and any chance of seeing him back in the dugout at St. James’ Park rely solely on a takeover deal happening.
