The Sun are reporting that we are among three clubs pursuing Burnley winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson. Leicester City and Southampton are also in the chase for the midfielder.
The newspaper claims that Rafa is a “massive fan” of the 27 year old, but it is believed that the Clarets would demand as much as £20million for the player.
That amount looks pretty steep considering his stats since moving to Turfmoor from Charlton Athletic two years ago.
Although his first season was curtailed by a knee injury, he managed to play 24 games in all competitions, scoring just once and providing three assists. His game time has increased this campaign, and he has already played 32 games, having scored two goals and providing six assists.
The Icelandic international has certainly hit form since becoming a regular back in October, but it is debatable whether he would represent value for money. He is left footed, but generally plays from the right hand side, and although we could certainly strengthen in wide areas, his lack of goals does concern me.
Just three goals in the top flight of English football isn`t particularly impressive. On top of that, we would have to shell out a sizeable fee to get him. What do you think? Should we look to sign him?
