Rafa Benitez has a brilliant 7-word response for all of his critics during Newcastle stint

|

Newcastle fans know how good Rafael Benitez, but it appears as though a lot of viewers outside of St. James’ Park don’t quite recognise how good the Spaniard is.

For example, Paul Lambert criticised the Spaniard’s defensive approach against Chelsea back in August whilst serving as a pundit for BeIN Sports, and that’s a claim that has followed Rafa throughout this time at Newcastle.

However, in an interview with the Chronicle, Benitez has delivered a brilliant 7-word response for the doubters that claim that he is a defensive coach.

He simply said: “You don’t win 13 trophies without attacking.”

Of course, he elaborated further and highlighted that he likes to attack where possible, but that short verdict from the boss says all that everyone needs to know.

Make no mistake, Benitez is far from a defensive coach. he’s just a manager that knows the limits of his team, and when the Magpies face an opponent that is stronger than them, the boss sets the team up correctly. For example, he may load up the defence to help prevent a marauding attack, with a focus on counter-attacking as a means of gaining some offensive ground. Alternatively, against a more defensive team, maybe the boss will focus a little bit more on controlling the ball.

We didn’t think we could love Rafa any more, but we certainly do now after this comment. What a response.
