An unnamed club official has been quoted making some extraordinary claims about the Premier League and their relationship with the so called big six.
Well respected football journalist Henry Winter tweeted about some of the reaction from the 14 clubs not involved in the Super League plans, which helps to shed some light on why the Newcastle takeover may not have happened.
In a short thread, Winter says that a club official spoke of the ‘big six’ clubs briefing the Premier League CEO the day before Premier League meetings on what they wanted to happen and stating that this is a thing of the past.
PL’s 14 non-plotter clubs hoping the shamed six change some of their execs who have so antagonised in meetings. “We hope that the clubs get fresh faces to run them now as United have done,” says one club official. “It will help a lot to mend fences…

“The last 40 PL meetings – at which the six would brief the PL ceo the day before that they want x or if not they will leave – are now a thing of the past. No more big six b*llocks.”

The fact that these six clubs had such a big say in comparison to the other 14 is an absolute disgrace and Richard Masters and co letting them get away with it shows the Premier League absolutely is not blameless in helping these clubs gain the arrogance needed to want to move away to join a European Super League.
Toon fans will no doubt read those quotes with extra interest. Amanda Staveley accused some of the ‘top six’ of lobbying the Premier League about the takeover, advising the league not to rubber stamp the deal out of jealousy and fear of new competition.
The idea that these clubs were allowed to brief the governing body the day before the meeting and even threatening to walk away makes me feel that Staveley may have been spot on in her concerns.
This latest claim is just more ammunition for Newcastle United and sport law expert Nick de Marco in their pursuit of proving wrong doing on the Premier League’s behalf and forcing through a takeover that is more than a year in the making.
