When Newcastle’s promotion from the championship was achieved, it was a job well done considering the work that needed doing after being left to fester for a while.

Most of the credit goes to Rafa Benitez and his methods but others have played their part in being one of the 20 clubs that will go into the 2017/18 premier league season.

For us, our entry back into this league makes us one of the clubs with the most seasons spent in the top tier since football was invented by Sky back in 1992, tongue in cheek aside, that’s not too bad a record.

Two new clubs make their debut in the rebranded premier league in Brighton and Huddersfield although they’ve been in the top flight before some years prior.

It’s Brighton’s first time back at the top since 1983 when they ended their one and only stint in the league after four years.

Huddersfield see their first games in the top league since 1972 with their history a bit more celebrated with three league titles on the trot in the early to mid 1920’s. Their last league title coming the season before our last.

With an official 23 days left until the transfer window can creak open, we at least have only 6 days to wait until we’re told the order in which we play our 19 opponents both home and away.

We will line up with this lot:

Arsenal, Bournemouth, Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Stoke City, Swansea City, Tottenham, Watford, West Brom and West Ham.
