On Gutierrez and squad rotation:

“I can understand why the fans have taken to him. In Jonas, they see a wholehearted player who will run back almost as quickly as he runs forward, and we`ll need more of that tomorrow. They see him as a team player, and I think that’s normal in players who have a strong affiliation with supporters.

It’s a nice position to be in. What you need in a squad is real competition for places. We’d probably like more. We’ve still got a few players out injured, but there is competition for places.”

On locking horns with the mackem midget:

“That was something both managers regretted at the time, but that`s the emotions that go with football. It wasn`t the first time, and it won`t be the last. Sometimes you`ll get involved in things you don`t want to, but it`s all geared towards one thing, and that`s showing enough emotion and desire to want your team to succeed. The emotions and reactions have to come from the type of game that it is. It`s a man`s game. You`ve got to make the tough decisions.”
