Pope Named Carabao Cup Player Of Round

|

Nick Pope’s dream debut season with The Toon Army has been furthered with the news that the Newcastle stopper has been named ‘Player of the Round’ for round three of the Carabao Cup.

Currently, on World Cup duty with England, Pope has enjoyed an incredible season thus far, jointly leading the most clean sheets and least goals conceded tables with fellow England international keeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

The former Burnley man has been awarded the Carabao Cup award after an unbeatable performance against Crystal Palace at St James’ Park. Not only did he keep another clean sheet during the match, but he also brilliantly saved three of the five penalties he faced in the subsequent shoot-out.

Newcastle will continue their cup adventure when facing Bournemouth in the last 16 later this month, and fans will be hoping to see their goalkeeping hero back between the sticks after his return from Qatar.

Pope has quickly become a fan favourite on Tyneside, and the €11.5 Million paid for his services is definitely money well spent. He has been a huge part of the Magpies’ surprise top-four challenge this season and is sure to have a big part to play in the remaining 23 games.

Congratulations Popey!!
