Those of us in our older years will remember a young erratic goalkeeper join us many years ago and win us round with his eccentricity and performance. His name was Pavel Srnicek.
He was refered so much so that the phrase ‘Pavel is a Geordie’ was attached to his every move from then on in.
He has recently became attached to Newcastle again with his appearance in local papers with his thoughts on the football scene and most recently when releasing a book and doing sign in sessions.
To say the news coming out of his homeland in the Czech Republic is a shcok is quite an understatement as he was a picture of health just last week and it just goes to show that we’re not as strong as we think we’re are.
This is on the back of news that Pavel was out for a run and succumbed to a heart attack which has consigned him to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Prague.
His condition is described as critical as it is reported that he was found unconscious on the road and had been for an unspecified amount of time.
Obviously the thoughts of all Newcastle and football fans are with him and hopefully he recovers from this to maybe add a chapter or two to his recent book.
