Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has indicated that while his intent is to leave the club, one of the major factors of his departure will be the fact that the Magpies are unwilling to offer him a new deal.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid hitman said: ‘I am contracted to Newcastle for a few weeks, so that is where I am at the minute. I don’t think I am going to be re-signing at Newcastle, as one I don’t think I am going to be offered a new contract and I want to play in the Premier League or a top division somewhere else.’

The statement implies that if he were offered a new contract, he would stay? Sounds like Lil Mickey may be fishing for a new contract, and if Alan Shearer is appointed, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that a trunk-load of cash may be thrown at the 29-year-old forward in order to keep him on Tyneside.

The Chester-born player has however expressed a deep desire to play in the Premier League, and it looks likely that Aston Villa, Everton, and Hull City will duke it out for the former England man.
