‘Outstanding’ – £18m-rated ace has these Newcastle fans excited for new season

|

Going by his display on the international stage against Argentina, we Newcastle fans are a lucky bunch to have Miguel Almiron in our ranks.

The £18million-rated midfielder was one of the stars of the show as his Paraguay side were held to a 1-1 draw in their second Group Stage encounter of this summer’s Copa America, having been held to a scored draw against Qatar in matchday one.

Almiron’s pass paved the way for Derlis Gonzalez to put Paraguay two goals to the good against Qatar at the weekend, but a late own goal by Rodrigo Rojas scuppered Eduardo Berizzo’s side’s competition opener.

It looked like Paraguay were going to right the wrongs of Sunday’s result on Wednesday night, though, as they moved into a one-goal lead in the 36th minute; when Almiron burst down the left flank to beat two men, before drilling the ball to the edge of the box, where Richard Sanchez greeted his pass with a first time effort tucked into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot.

A second-half penalty by Lionel Messi ensured the tie ended as a draw, however, despite the FC Barcelona icon’s country managing just two shots on target all game.

Almiron, on the other hand, put in a stunning performance with a 96% pass competition rate, of which came one key ball, along with a 100% dribble success rate, 100% tackle success rate from three attempts, and made no errors which led to the 25-year-old losing possession.

When a clip of the 17-cap ace’s assist was shared on Reddit, these fans instantly were excited for the new campaign…
