Opinion: Key Newcastle man’s must pass fit for Watford tie after missing midweek clash

|

Tomorrow at 3pm, Newcastle will take on Watford in their fourth Premier League game of the season. It presents the Magpies with a brilliant chance of getting their second win of the season after beating Tottenham in North London next week, but it will be hard to do without Miguel Almiron.

The young Paraguayan attacking midfielder has bags of energy and we all saw him run himself into the ground against Spurs last week, although as a result of the shift he put in he was then ruled out against Leicester in midweek for the Geordies’ Carabao Cup 2nd round clash.

Now, though, it looks like Steve Bruce is expecting to have the midfield man available for the clash, as The Shields Gazette have posted comments from the local-lad Newcastle manager claiming that both Almiron and Joelinton should be available despite the fact he couldn’t risk them against Leicester.

We’re yet to see exactly what Almiron can do in the Premier League, though. The former Atlanta United MLS man has played every minute of action so far in the domestic league under Bruce, although he’s yet to score or assist in the black and white of Newcastle.

It doesn’t help that in those three games the Magpies have scored just two goals, but the point still stands. There seems to be a lot of backing for the South American, though, as former Tottenham and Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Friedel has publicly backed him, with quotes from US-Bookies.com.

The former Premier League ‘keeper described Almiron as ‘the best player in MLS before his departure’ and backs him to be a star despite his slow start, and if he can find his best form against Watford then the Magpies will have a brilliant chance of taking their points’ tally to 6 this weekend.
