Opinion: Benitez’s latest plans could help fire Newcastle back where they belong

|

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks as though everything is finally starting to come together at Newcastle. There’s been a lot of improvement at St. James’ Park over the last few months, and Rafael Benitez is apparently eyeing further growth this summer.

According to the Chronicle, Benitez has drawn up a list of players that he’ll look to move on this summer, with men including Achraf Lazaar, Rob Elliot and Jack Colback all on a list that could include as many as six individuals.

Of course, this serves predominantly to remove the deadwood from the squad. This is important, as there are so many players at Newcastle that are below par, and by getting them out of the squad, the overall quality at St. James’ Park will improve.

Naturally, though, their sales will generate funds that can then be reinvested, not to mention the huge impact that the reduction in our wage bill could have moving forward.

The sad reality at Newcastle is that so much of our squad hasn’t changed since we were promoted to the Premier League, and that’s a testament to how well Rafa Benitez has done; but also how important it is that we rebuild this summer.

By moving some talents on, we will continue the process of building to the new era that began with the arrival of Miguel Almiron in January. We need a few more players that have his level of quality, and we can’t settle for any less.

Things are changing for the better at Newcastle at last – and hopefully we’ll see that in full swing this summer.
