Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd is growing increasingly impatient with Martin O’Neill.

The Magpies have been chasing the Irishman for months, and without giving a straight-forward ‘No!’, O’Neill insists on keeping Fat Fred hanging on.

The Toon boss has just about had enough of it, particularly after hearing rumours that Middlesbrough are in talks with the ex-Celtic gaffa having heard Boro will be without a manager after the World Cup.

With Glenn Roeder continuing to make infinitely more of Graeme Souness’s expensively-assembled squad than the Scot ever did, the former centre-back’s claims to go from caretaker to full-time manager have been growing stronger by the week.

Boro want O’Neill to replace Steve McClarren, who is set for the England job, and the rumour from the capital it that O’Neill fancies BORO not NEWCASTLE!

NEWCASTLE United are ready to stun football by appointing Glenn Roeder as boss in a new-look set-up at St James’ Park.

Toon have been linked with some of the top young managers in the country since sacking Graeme Souness in February, but caretaker chief Roeder will be offered the job if he can take the club into the UEFA Cup.
