Aston Villa boss David O’Leary says he has big plans for James Milner as he steps up his bid to land the Newcastle midfielder.

But everything could depend on the future
of the Villa gaffa, as fans are set to make it a summer of discontent for the ex-Leeds boss.

Milner has spent the past season on-loan at Villa Park and now looks set to make his switch to the Midlands outfit a permanent arrangement. Although the player has kept his mouth shut and never said a word against his current employers, it is hardly a secret he is loving his time in the Midlands and wants to pledge his future to Villa

He has established himself as a favourite with the club’s fans, but it is O’Leary who continues to have a fight on his hand to win over the Holt End. His comments that they were ‘fickle’ have stuck like glue, and the pressure to get him out of the club before the start of next season is growing by the day.

O’Leary: ”James is the sort of young, ambitious player I want to build the side around.’
