With the new fixtures for the premier league dictating our whereabouts from August until May next year due out tomorrow, thoughts turn to our plan prior to the season start.

As the club already announced last week, the friendly at Bradford was quickly followed by an announcement of facing Preston away as well.

Newcastle generally play a home game in the week before the season start and talk in Italy via twitter is that Verona may be the opponents in the first week of August.

With former coach Fabio Pecchia in charge it’s an easy link but there may be something it it, the same as another one of our coaches in Ian Cathro.

Scottish paper The Edinburgh News saying that us and Hearts are in talks to play at Tynecastle at the end of July. Cathro left us to manage the Scottish side but has had a bit of a tough time and as he looks like staying in charge, it would be the sort of thing Rafa Benitez would do in lending his support.

The same applies to a game in Germany in Berlin. All speculation so far.

Our local media in The Journal and Chronicle has been vocal in their belief that there’ll be another Irish training camp this year with a game at the end of it but with five friendly games chosen last season but a season that starts a week later than our championship campaign did, you would think that we would play at least one game more this time.

Potential friendly list with some estimated dates where indicated.

(Est) Saturday 15th July – Away game in Ireland?

(Est) Tuesday/Wednesday 18th/19th July – Away to Hearts?

Saturday 22nd July – Away to Preston

Wednesday 26th July – Away to Bradford

(Est) Saturday 29th July – Away to Hertha Berlin?

(Est) Tuesday 1st August – Away friendly?

Saturday 5th August – Home to Verona?

Obviously the guesses will be changed when or if confirmation comes.
