Apart from a couple of football matches going on in Gelsenkirchen today, there’s been little to no coverage of something that doesn’t belong in the game.

The hooligan element.

News reached us at Talk of the Tyne earlier of reports of West Ham fans targetting Newcastle fans who were left severly exposed in the VELTINS-Arena in Germany.

Woman and small children were left shocked and frightened for their lives as a vicious assault on innocent fans occured.

Details at this moment are cagey to say the least but a common theme is coming across that it was an unprovoked attack by a minority hooligan element of people who supported West Ham or at least pretended to be with news emerging that this was planned well in advance by facebook groups.

One story by someone who will stay anonymous is of the fans being punched or attacked out of the blue before flags were torn down and one stolen. With nowhere to run and the German police just standing back, it’s an absolute disgrace that this is allowed in the 21st century and it must be dealt with.
