Michael Owen – Out of contract, time and support at Newcastle. No doubt he`ll impress at whatever club he ends up with, probably Citeh, Arsenal or Everton. The worst £40m this club will ever and has ever spent. His combination of injuries, passionless attitude and missed chances over the past four years has left a very bitter taste.

Fee recouped: £0
Wage savings: £110,000 a week (£5.5m a season)

Mark Viduka – Out of contract. Symptomatic of NUFC in that he`s spent three times more time on the sidelines than he has on the pitch. Back off to Oz probably after two relegations with his last three clubs.

Fee recouped: £0
Wage savings: £60,000 per week (£3m a season)

Cacapa – Out of contract. Destroyed versus Portsmouth at home last season and has clung onto his contract ever since. Possibly a return to France on the cards?

Fee recouped: £0
Wage savings: £30,000 per week (£1.5m a season)

Joey Barton – Vile, vile, horror of a footballer who has disgraced the club and taken his and Willy McKay`s pot of silver throughout spells on the sidelines, in the nick and in Sporting Chance. Hopefully farmed off to Bolton or Blackburn, most probably for a hefty loss.

Fee recouped: £1.5m
Wage savings: £65,000 per week (£3.4m a season)

Oba Martins – The darling of a proportion of our fanbase, which is an utter mystery. Over the last ten games, the chances Martins has missed could have easily put us in mid-table. Has battled manfully with his groin injury but misses too many chances to become a great goalscorer, rather than just a scorer of great goals. Destination mooted as Athletico Madrid for next season, according to the La Liga legend that is Guillem Balague.

Fee recouped: £8m
Wage savings: £50,000 per week (£2.5m a season)

Alan Smith – Simply not good enough, but once again the clubs are lining up to take him off our hands. Wigan and Everton are again linked.

Fee recouped: £2m
Wage savings: £60,000 per week (£3m a season)

Jonas Gutierrez – Probably back off to Spain to keep his Argentina place. Athletico Madrid again mentioned as a destination for the lad.

Fee recouped: £4m
Wage savings: £40,000 per week (£2m a season)

Fabricio Coloccini – A move back to Spain again on the cards. Who the hell will pay us anywhere near the £10.2m we paid for the clown? Well done Vetere, Jiminez and Wise.

Fee recouped: £4m
Wage savings: £50,000 per week (£2.5m a season)

Habib Beye – Back to France for the Senegalese international. A sad end for one of our more popular players.

Fee recouped: £1m
Wage savings: £40,000 per week (£2m a season)

Jose Enrique – Another back off to La Liga potentially. No great loss given his appearances record for us. Another import made of china.

Fee recouped: £3m
Wage savings: £40,000 per week (£2m a season)

Nacho Gonzalez – Loan expires. What a tool.

No fee recouped
Wage savings: £25,000 per week (£1.25m a season)

Damien Duff – Back to Blackburn possibly? Popular with Big Sam so it`s a possibility.

Fee recouped: £3m
Wage savings: £60,000 per week (£3m a season)

Xisco – Spain. Again.

Fee recouped: £2m
Wages saved: £30,000 per week (£1.5m a season)

Peter Lovenkrands – Contract not offered. Probably.

Wages saved: £20,000 per week (£1m a season)

Geremi – 1 year left on his contract. Let him go to Turkey.

Fee recouped: £750k
Wages saved: £60,000 per week (£3m a season)

IF this scenario came off:

Wages saved: £740k a week
Over the course of the season: £38,480,000
Transfers: £29.25m

It really does hammer home just how horrifically Ashley and Shepherd have managed our wages to turnover ration. Recouping this would put us massively ahead of the game in the Championship.
