Some eighteen months after last seeing the infamous transfer line, we eventually blew the dust off and found the blasted thing with the confirmation of young Spaniard, Ayoze Perez.

No real big deal as far as we’re concerned because he’s relatively unheard of and just one for the development pool really but such has been the crumbs we’ve been fed by the greedy regime that the news has been gobbled up by the media and the fickle as some sort of coup.

Regardless, the player is a 20 year old striker and joins us from Tenerife having scored 16 goals in Spain`s second division this season. The fee has been reported to be somewhere between £1.5 and £2 million.

Speaking to the official NUFC website, Perez only had nice things to say.

“I`m very happy to be here to start this new adventure,”

“I`m very eager for it to begin and I`m very pleased to play for this magnificent club.

“Any football player would be interested in playing for such a club and I will earn my position to get in the first team.”

Time will tell if it’s a stepping stone to a higher profile club or just another in a growing line of Spanish flops on Tyneside.
