French paper L`Equipe reported earlier that Newcastle made an enquiry for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette but that the player wasn’t interested.
The player himself has been reported to be close to signing a new deal, so with agents involved, it is always going to be difficult especially when more than one bidding party is involved. So by not being interested, the increase of wages etc can always ‘change’ a mind.
The fact that we’re a club with ambitions of making money first and wanting to achieve things a distant last plus currently a mid table one at that will always work against a player being wanted in his own country as well as European football being on the agenda, so it’s a losing battle at present but a nice time waster for the likes of Ashley to keep the fans attention diverted whilst the transfer window ticker gets closer to zero.
There is more potential for this deal to happen if or when his contract runs down because we have history on waiting for those moments to happen but with another two years left on his current contract and a likely extension, it’s time to move on to other targets, if we have any.
That said, Lacazette has a not so great goalscoring ratio as he’s a 1 in 4.5 game man. Scoring 24 goals in over 100 games.
