Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles is in line for a new contract according to The Telegraph.

The story, picked up by various other media outlets sees the 23 year old in line for a new five year deal here.

Joining us from Nottingham Forest a year after originally signing due to being loaned back as part of the deal, he has started to fulfil certain parts of his potential.

Lascelles started to show what he is capable of by growing in confidence during our relegation season a couple of years back with his leadership qualities putting many in advance of his years to absolute shame as he questioned why nobody cared about playing for the club.

Last season in the championship saw an impressive season start then tail off a bit before it was revealed that he had needed surgery for a while and had been playing through the pain barrier.

He is a character that is priceless to the club at present and if he does indeed agree a new deal then it’s a step in the right direction for the club.
