Fans have been reacting to the news that, according to The Mirror, Steven Gerrard has rejected an approach from Mike Ashley.
They claim, the Newcastle owner thought the chances of luring Gerrard to St James’ Park were poor, but he was prepared to try.
But the former Liverpool captain has snubbed the approach and spurned the chance to replace his former boss on Tyneside. He only joined Rangers last summer and believes he has unfinished business at Ibrox, after guiding the team to a second-place finish last season.
The Mirror also states the club had identified Nice manager Patrick Vieira as their other top target to replace the Spaniard.
However, Vieira has indicated he is happy at his current job and wants to remain where he is.
Despite the two targets being early in their managerial career, they have turned down a Premier League job, and the Newcastle fans even understand their decision.
Some of them took to Twitter to share their views about Gerrard not wanting to take over at St James’ Park.
One stated ‘good on him’ for saying no whilst another insisted ‘not surprised in the slightest, his stock is rising, can’t see why he would want to risk that coming here’ to Newcastle.

Good for him, if true. Couldn’t see any decent manager working under Ashley’s regime.

That didn’t take long, mind I’d be surprised if Rafa didn’t warn him off it
