Lots of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after Steve Bruce confirmed that Jack Colback has sustained a knee injury, and will be out for the next four months.

Colback was one of the several senior players that Bruce omitted from his first 25-man Premier League squad at St. James’ Park, meaning the Killingworth-born midfielder has not played a single minute of first-team football this season.

The club had hoped to sell Colback this month with his lucrative £35,000-per-week contract set to expire in June, but will now have to continue paying his wages despite the ex-Sunderland man’s Toon career effectively reaching its end.

Bruce has confirmed that Colback sustained the blow to his knee in training, having allowed the 30-year-old to remain in the first-team fold at Darsley Park to increase the number of players available for pre-match exercises.

“Colback hurt his knee so won’t be available for four months,” the boss said, via quotes by the Chronicle.

Bruce also confirmed that Henri Saivet may leave the North East this month having also been omitted from his Premier League plans, though Jamie Sterry could come into consideration when we face Rochdale in the FA Cup.

“Saivet? It is best for everyone that he takes this opportunity to move on,” he added. “Sterry is a young lad, in his position we are OK.

“We’ll have to see who is available [for the FA Cup].”

In other Newcastle United news, the club are ready to sell a £54,000-per-week man in January as part of a vast clear out at St. James’ Park.
