‘Not a fan’, ‘Lovely’ – These Newcastle fans discuss potential alternative to funding Ashley

|

Rafa Benitez’s exit from Newcastle has been the leading cause of frustration and anger on Tyneside this summer, but a lot of fans were already dismayed when the club announced our home kit for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The design was dubbed ‘rank’ and ‘awful’, while the staggering price caused some surprise, when it emerged that a replica of our latest Puma home strip was the most expensive in the top-flight at a staggering £65. An authentic version of the short-sleeve shirt is also available at an eye-watering £95 on the club’s shop, with junior kits ranging from an RRP of £40 to £50.

Given the frustrations directed toward our owner Mike Ashley at how he is running the club, there has been a swarm of fans sharing their opposition to paying the vast amounts for our new kit if it means further lining his pockets.

As such, one supporter on Reddit has suggested a possible alternative kit Toon fans can buy ahead of the new season, which would see that Ashley does not receive any more of their money.

The shirt, called ‘The Seahorse’, comes from Football Town’s vintage collection, and features contrasting white and black vertical stripes across the chest and sleeve, with a golden seahorse depicting a club crest.

It is not necessarily a cheaper alternative for any Newcastle fan considering the shirt instead of the officially licensed Puma design, as Football Town are charging £45 plus shipping for the jersey.

Some supporters are also not as impressed with the design as the fan who shared it on Reddit, while others have their own way of representing the Magpies next season without purchasing a new shirt…
