Rafa Benitez’s exit from Newcastle and the potential takeover by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has thrown United into a state of dismay, with fans frustrated over the lack of communication by Mike Ashley and his team, and the way the Sports Direct owner is running the Magpies.

Some supporters on Reddit are even now genuinely questioning whether the club will actually make any signings this summer, as while fresh faces are desperately needed to move us back into contention for a top-half finish, they cannot see anyone coming to Tyneside to replace the likely departures, let alone strengthening the squad.

Players like Sean Longstaff and Ayoze Perez are the most likely big name departures this summer, with the North Shields-born defensive midfielder extensively linked with a move to Manchester United to the sound of £25million.

Perez, on the other hand, seems set to join Leicester City, with reports of the Foxes triggering a £30million release clause in his contract, and holding the Spanish forward at their facilities earlier this week to discuss personal terms and carry out the obligatory medical.

Losing either would be horrific for our chances of progressing next term, with Perez potentially joining a direct rival for the lower top-half places. But, as said, some fans cannot see any new signings being made to replace them, as ‘there appears to be no hope now’ with Newcastle, as one supporter put it on Reddit

Seriously, does anyone actually envisage us making any genuine signings this transfer window? from r/NUFC
