Newcastle United have won just one of their opening 11 Premier League matches this season, with that victory coming in the most recent clash with Watford.
Prior to the game against the Hornets on Saturday, where Ayoze Perez scored the only goal of the game, the Magpies had just two points from 10 matches and were rooted near the bottom of the league standings.
Victory for Rafael Benitez’s side could now provide spark into Newcastle’s battle to avoid survival and some fans have expressed their confidence after comparing their results to the side’s around them.
Newcastle have already faced defending champions Manchester City this season, losing 2-1, and were quick to compare that result to the 6-1 drubbing that fellow relegation candidates Southampton suffered at the weekend.
While both results essentially mean the same thing, with neither side taking points off Pep Guardiola’s title favourites, some Newcastle fans believe it is a positive sign about their season so far.

Utterly vindicates Benitez’s approach. Our GD is about 10 better than those around us – and we’ve played the ‘big’ teams…
