It’s been bad news after bad news for Newcastle fans for much of the season. Whether you consider the minimal business we did over the summer, the poor form of our team collectively, a few shocking individual performances or the fact that, somehow, Mike Ashley is still the owner of the Magpies, there’s not much for us to celebrate.
Unfortunately, though, that doesn’t look likely to change, as per a recent report from the Telegraph. The Telegraph report that Benitez will leave Newcastle this summer if he isn’t given what he wants by the Newcastle brass, namely two signings.
Clearly, the boss wants to give the team the best chance of staying in the Premier League, and he’s clearly desperate to achieve that goal. However, he can’t do it without extra reinforcements.
So, truthfully, he doesn’t really have much of a choice on this matter. What’s he getting out of all of this other than sheer frustration?
Unsurprisingly, Newcastle fans aren’t too surprised by the news, and in fact, most fans seem to be encouraging him to leave. They don’t think Benitez deserves this treatment. See below:
Good on him!! We need new faces to secure our PL status!! #AshleyOut

Looks like he’s leaving us then. Ashley will probably give Rio Ferdinand his first managers job just to wind us fans up.

Not renewing a toxic contract is not quitting. I don’t blame him at all. Even Ashley understands that this quality manager ADDS value to the club

Rafa will quit anyway if he’s got any sense.

And will this signing happen in your honest opinion? History would tell you it categorically won’t so I personally wont be holding my breath for it. Nobody can blame Rafa if he goes as expected at the end of the season. He’s done more in my opinion than anyone else would have.

I can’t believe he has stuck around this long. #AshleyOut

Benitez shouldn’t wait until the end of the season to walk, he should go now with his head held high, he has done a remarkable job at #NUFC with the resources at hand. No fan would blame him, he has chosen to work at a club like Newcastle which not many other big names would do.
