‘No Concrete Interest’ With Newcastle Outcast Seemingly Destined To Stay

|

Achraf Lazaar is likely to remain at the club after August 31st, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper reports that there is “no concrete interest” in the Moroccan international following the collapse of his loan move to Genoa earlier this month.

We have offered Lazaar to clubs in France and in the Championship in an attempt to get the left-back off the books, but no suitors have opted to step up their interest.

EFL teams can still sign players on loan until the end of the month, but it seems the fullback’s salary is proving problematic with no club prepared to subsidise his wages.

Even though the club only have one natural left back in Paul Dummett, Rafa Benitez has been keen to offload Lazaar. Speaking after the defender’s move to Italy fell through, he was asked whether the Moroccan could stay:

“We will see. It is too early. The transfer windows are still open elsewhere.”

If he does remain at the club, it looks likely that he’ll end up with the Under 23s until a club can be found for him in January.
