Nick Pope – That’s It. That’s The Headline


Nick Pope is currently trending on Twitter thanks to Newcastle fans, led by @ToonPolls hijacking a recent poll run by Burger King.

The original poll asked Twitter users which they prefer, tomato or gherkin? However, as any Newcastle fan who uses Twitter knows, @ToonPolls are the authority on all twitter polls and any and all polls must be authorised by them or else they don’t count. Therefore, Burger King found themselves with thousands of replies to this poll simply saying “Nick Pope”.

This phenomenon quickly caught on and soon polls all over Twitter were hijacked by the Toon Army with the companies themselves getting caught up in the action. Burger King, Walkers Crisps and Specsavers have all tweeted “Nick Pope” this afternoon. McDonalds even went as far as offering Toon Polls a free breakfast if Pope keeps a clean sheet against Brighton.

At the time of writing, the man himself hasn’t tweeted anything in acknowledgement of his rise to the top (of the Twitter trending chart).

Sometimes a story is such a non-story that it becomes a story, and basically the moral of this story is ….. Newcastle fans are mint.
