News: Unpopular BT pundit lavishes Newcastle with praise

|

Chris Sutton has heaped praise on Newcastle for their display on Sunday.

The Toon turned in a brave and committed performance to beat Manchester United 1-0 and right some of the wrongs from the previous 5-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Matty Longstaff scored the winner on his Premier League debut at the Gallowgate End – for a Geordie, it doesn’t get much better than that.

It has to be said Steve Bruce deserves credit for the win – as he risked Longstaff and also started Allan Saint-Maximin, who was excellent.

Sutton, who usually divides opinion amongst football fans, was full of praise for everyone connected with Newcastle.

Sutton claimed that this was a big win for Bruce as it has answered some of his critics with the former Norwich City man claiming that the Newcastle manager got it spot on.

This was Bruce’s only win as a manager over his ex-team, and it came on the 23rd attempt, and Sutton believes that this can be a foundation for Newcastle to build on and kickstart their season.

I said last week that Newcastle had to turn in a similar performance to their 1-0 win over Manchester United in February 2018, and they did.

The Toon were well organised and looked a threat on the counter. Manchester United may be a shadow of their former selves, but still, Newcastle deservedly won, and I hope they can build on this.
