Papiss Cisse will always be remembered on Tyneside for his blistering start to life in a black & white shirt.

Fourteen games 13 goals – a dream start for any striker.

The following seasons were not as productive for the Senegalese striker, but he still ended up with 44 goals in 131 appearances, and Cisse can look back at his time with Newcastle proud of what he achieved.

However, it is not just Tyneside where he will be remembered – Cisse will never be forgotten in the Premier League after he scored one of the most extraordinary goals ever against Chelsea in 2012.

Speaking to the Athletic about that goal, Cisse described the strike as ridiculous and that it was just instinct.

The 34-year-old described the goal as something that happens only once in a career and that he only did it because he had the confidence that he could score.

Cisse jokes that he has scored over 160 goals in his career but that this one is his identity.

No one ever remembers his first that night at Stamford Bridge – which was a sublime piece of individual skill.

Davide Santon rolled the ball into Cisse, who flicked the ball up with his right and volleyed the ball into the corner with his left in the same motion.

Cisse says that he loves that goal, but no one ever talks about it.

Well, Cisse, I do.

It was the first half of one of the best Premier League braces ever and should never be forgotten as it summed up everything good about Newcastle that season.

Both goals were audacious and outrageous, and they were evidence of what a striker like Cisse could do when he was on top of his game.
