News: Newcastle want 23-year-old winger in January

|

A report in the Northern Echo has indicated that Newcastle United have made Rony Lopes their top target for the winter transfer window.

Steve Bruce has identified the attacking areas of his squad as needing to be strengthened, and he believes that Lopes, who currently plays for Sevilla, will be the man to add some attacking flair to his side.

The 23-year-old, who played five times for Manchester City, will cost around £18m.

The winger has struggled at Sevilla since joining from Monaco this summer only making one appearance and providing no goals as well as no assists.

Before this, he was in scintillating form for Monaco scoring 17 goals in the 2017/18 season, but the move to Spain has not worked, and he may be thinking about moving on.

Newcastle currently have Christian Atsu, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Matt Ritchie as the only recognised wingers in the squad – so they could do with some more depth out wide.

Lopes is still young and clearly has a talent, so a move to St James’ Park may be exactly what he needs to reignite his career.
