News: Newcastle United to hand vital trio new contracts

|

A report in the Daily Mirror, via the Evening Chronicle, states that Jonjo Shelvey is close to signing a new contract at Newcastle, and Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden should follow him before the new year.

Shelvey is our top scorer this season and was brilliant on Saturday, and he probably is our most gifted central midfield player, and he seems to love life on Tyneside – especially now that Rafa is gone.

Since joining in January 2016, the 27-year-old has made 118 appearances for Newcastle scored 10 goals and has provided 19 assists.

Hayden has totally turned his Toon career around since an awful red card against Cardiff City last season, and the 24-year-old has become an essential part of the Newcastle engine room.

He currently earns around £22,000 per week, so any new contract should see him get a deserved boost in wages – for a player who has become a real fan-favourite and someone I would like to see on Tyneside for many years.

Ritchie is now 30, so it is a surprise he could be signing a new deal – as that seems to be against the club’s age policy for players.

However, no one in this Newcastle squad works harder for the badge, and the move into a left-wing-back should allow him to continue his Premier League career for many years to come.

Which of this trio do you want to see get a new deal the most?

Shelvey

Hayden

Ritchie

Following up the six-year deal of Martin Dubravka with new contracts for these three would be a positive step forward, and it is a sign that the Toon want to keep their best players.
