News: Newcastle United have reached an impasse with 21-year-old midfielder

|

A report in the Daily Mail claims that Newcastle United and Sean Longstaff have reached an impasse in negotiations over a new six-year-deal.

The 21-year-old’s current deal runs out in 2022, but the Toon’s hierarchy have accepted that his increased role in the team and undoubted potential mean he is worthy of a new deal.

Newcastle slapped a £50m price tag on the North Shields-born midfielder in the summer to warn off Manchester United, and to reflect that value; he must be given a new contract.

However, knowing how Newcastle like to negotiate, this should come as no surprise that they have reached a deadlock in talks.

Hopefully, this situation can be resolved soon, and Sean can commit his future to his boyhood club.

In other more positive news Sean’s younger brother Matty is set to be offered a five-year deal as his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, after a stunning breakthrough Premier League game against Manchester United – Matty will be given the chance to remain on Tyneside.

There are not expected to be any problems with his deal, and that should be completed soon.

Once Matty has signed Newcastle must make Sean’s signature a priority, the 21-year-old is emerging as a real leader for the Magpies, and he has immense talent that I want to see on Tyneside for many more years.
