News: Newcastle to challenge Everton for RB Leipzig man

|

Newcastle United and Everton are set to go head-to-head over the signature of RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen.

A report in the Daily Express claims that both clubs have scouted the Danish striker extensively and are keen to bring him to England.

The article mainly focuses on Everton’s interest, but it should be noted that Newcastle did have scouts at Leipzig’s first Champions League game with Benfica.

Could they have been looking at Poulsen? Certainly, at 6ft 4 he should have no problems adapting to the physicality of the league.

Newcastle already have Andy Carroll and Joelinton as strong hold-up strikers, but Carroll will not be fit to start a game until 2020 – so Poulsen could provide Joelinton with the support he needs.

At Leipzig Poulsen acts as the perfect foil for the rapid Timo Werner and last season he weighed in with 19 goals and eight assists.

The 25-year-old is also a full Danish international and has made 40 appearances for his country while scoring six goals in the process.

Poulsen is supposedly a Marco Silva target, and with his future looking uncertain Newcastle may be left with a clear path to bring the giant striker to Tyneside in January.
