News: Newcastle striker is still injured with no return date known

|

When you see a story like this regarding an injured Newcastle United striker you must think it is Andy Carroll but no not this time – instead it is Dwight Gayle who is crocked, and worryingly there is no idea when he will return.

Steve Bruce kept Gayle at the club because he believes he has a role to play in the season, but the former Crystal Palace man has not even featured for a minute of pre-season training – never mind any competitive football.

The problem is his calf, but Bruce has admitted that he is not getting any better – so there is no timescale on his return.

The Newcastle boss thinks that this is a big blow, but I don’t think his absence affects the Toon too badly.

Gayle is a fantastic Championship striker and Newcastle would not have been promoted without his goals, and for that, I am eternally grateful, however, in the Premier League Gayle has struggled.

His Championship record is twice as good as his top-flight one, and it is time for Newcastle to move him on.

Rafael Benitez bought him to do a job, and he has done that, therefore, the Toon should get rid as soon as he recovers from his injury.
